A Rainy Wednesday Craft Afternoon in Amsterdam

I stumbled across these photos today, and instantly I was taken back to a typical Wednesday afternoon spent crafting with my kids. It feels especially fitting because autumn seems to have arrived in Amsterdam—rainy skies, a chill in the air, and that grey light that makes you want to stay cozy indoors.

On that day, I remember gathering all the supplies: squashes in different shapes and sizes, a palette of acrylic paints, and some small wooden boards I had tucked away in my studio for moments like this.

Lucien, my son, was right there with me—paintbrush in hand, completely absorbed in colours and shapes. He has always loved drawing and painting, and these afternoons together have become one of our favorite ways to connect. There’s something so special about creating side by side, letting the rain patter against the windows while we bring bright colours to life.

It’s these simple moments, messy hands, laughter, and a table full of half-finished projects, that stay with me. A rainy Wednesday turned into a memory I’ll always treasure.
